Officer Damon Talbott

1979-2001

Officer Damon Talbott was born in Trinidad, Colorado in November 1979 and he and his family subsequently moved to Roswell, New Mexico. Officer Talbott attended Eastern New Mexico University, in Roswell where he was enrolled in Criminal Justice courses. Officer Talbott was commissioned from the 64th State Police Academy on December 9, 2000 and assigned to Roswell. On October 19, 2001 Officer Talbott, along with other State Police Officers, were engaged in a training exercise with Medical Air Transport Inc.  The officers were being trained in setting up a helicopter-landing zone for traffic accidents in remote areas. At the conclusion of the training exercise, Officer Talbott, Officer Ramon Solis, and Officer Jennifer Schurman boarded the medical helicopter and flew in a westward direction from Roswell. At approximately
3:40 p.m. the Roswell District State Police Office was notified that the medical helicopter had crashed approximately six miles west of Roswell. Officer Talbott and Officer Solis died at the crash scene. Officer Schurman and the medical pilot sustained injuries but survived the crash. Officer Talbott, Officer Solis, and Officer Schurman were classmates in the 64th State Police Academy. Officer Talbott was survived by his parents, his sister, and his finance'. Officer Talbott was buried in the South Park Cemetery in Roswell, New Mexico.
