ROBERT SETH ROMERO

Ptlm. Robert S. Romero

1928-1967

Robert Romero was born in La Cienga, New Mexico on September 17, 1928.  He spent his early years in the Santa Fe area and later served in the U. S. Army as a paratrooper during World War II. He  was commissioned as a New Mexico State Police Officer on July 16, 1959, and during his career was stationed in Glorieta, Pecos, Cuba, Albuquerque, and Santa Fe.

While in Santa Fe, Robert was assigned to the Narcotics Division and was responsible for a number of major drug-related arrests.  Because of those arrests, he and his family received threats of violence and for their safety, he was reassigned as a special investigator attached to the Attorney General’s office.

In the early hours of Saturday, September 30, 1967, Robert was driving south on US 64, toward Santa Fe, when his unit struck the rear axle of a logging truck that was turning left in front of him.  The impact killed him instantly.  He was buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetery and was survived by his wife, three daughters, and one son.
